With the advent of Europeans in North Carolina, archaeologists find a wider range of artifacts, many of which are made from materials that preserve relatively well in the ground. The types of items recovered range from quite utilitarian items, to items used for hunting and defense, as well as items made for or repurposed into items of adornment. Many of these artifacts have relatively tight dates associated with them, allowing archaeologists to date sites with increased precision.
